This pistol combines a 1911 inspired trigger with striker fired reliability and a substantially lower bore axis, resulting in reduced felt recoil and unparalleled precision and accuracy. This pistol has many distinct features with the most notable being the unique profile and incredibly low bore axis. The H9 is constructed of premium quality materials with a stainless-steel slide, insert chassis and barrel chambered in 9mm with a double stack magazine capacity of 15 + 1. The H9 possesses a 1911-style, single axis, straight pull trigger with an integrated trigger safety. Shooters will be pleased to find that while the H9 by Hudson was inspired by the classic 1911, it shares characteristics with modern pistols with its striker fired design and does not have a grip or backstrap safety. This pistol delivers unrivaled modularity. With ambidextrous slide stop levers and a reversible magazine catch, the H9 is great for left or right-handed shooters. For the true 1911 purist, the trigger of the H9 can be replaced with a Hudson trigger that does not contain the integrated trigger safety. Additionally, Hudson external thumb safeties can be easily added to allow a user to run the pistol much more like a traditional 1911. The H9 by Hudson contains premium features and components from some of the industry’s leading manufacturers. The front sight of the H9 is a Trijicon HD. The premium G10 grip panels have been designed and manufactured by VZ. The textured lower back strap is designed and manufactured by Hogue out of G10 material. The premium Blacknitride finishing will be provided by H&M Metal Processing.

Hudson H9 Features

The Hudson H9 is an aluminum-frame, striker fired semi-automatic pistol that was designed in 2017 for the purpose of offering competitive shooters a comfortable full-size pistol with reduced muzzle flip and familiar controls.  Using a low-bore-axis design, the H9 operates on a modified version of Browning’s short recoil action with a tilting 4.28 inch barrel where the recoil spring sits ahead of the trigger guard allowing the barrel to sit lower towards the trigger.

Hudson H9 Ballistics

Hudson H9 Capacity

The Hudson H9 is chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum (9mm Luger, 9x19mm NATO) and feeds from a double-stack, single-feed magazine with a standard capacity of 15 rounds.  This pistol was designed to use Smith & Wesson 5900 magazines which are quite easy to find, and they’re also available limited to 10 rounds if you want one of these pistols in a state with capacity restrictions.

Hudson H9 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The Hudson H9 has ergonomics and controls that are very similar to the handgun that single-handedly won two world wars.  The grip is slightly wider to accommodate the double-stack magazine, but the real improvement comes from the low bore axis that offers a recoil impulse that delivers much less muzzle flip.  This allows the user to more easily send out a follow-up shot that is more likely to connect with the target.

Hudson H9 Fit & Finish

The Hudson H9 has a very straight-forward disassembly process and the coatings on the frame and receiver are quite durable, however the reliability of the pistol was quickly brought into question when it was unveiled at SHOT Show 2017.  While the recoil impulse is tame, the subpar manufacturing lead to poor performance, and combining that with a price tag higher than a Glock, the company shut down.

Fit and Finish

Hudson H9 Concealability

Concealability
While the Hudson H9 is smaller than a 1911 and has an overall footprint similar to a Glock 19, concealment isn’t realistically in the cards.  Aside from a grip tang that’s sharp enough to possibly break skin, the extra bulk of the lowered recoil spring would limit your holster choices as well as provide more volume that can easily print through most attire choices.
