The H&R Ultra Slug guns have combined the heavy barrel concept of the Ultra Varmint rifle to achieve a level of accuracy previously unheard of in firearms below the 1,000 mark. The H&R Ultra Slug Hunter is a 20 gauge break-action, single shot shotgun with a rifles barrel. Equipped from the factory with a Weaver style scope rail, this optics-ready shotgun utilizes its rifled barrel to sling sabots at large game with plenty of power and accuracy. Available with walnut, laminate or composite stocks, the H&R Ultra Slug Hunter is one of the best valued single-shot long guns.

The Harrington & Richardson Ultra Slug Hunter is a break-action, single-shot shotgun.  To load it, press down on the lever sitting to the right of the hammer and allow the barrel to drop.  Load a round into the chamber and close the barrel.  After firing, press the lever again to eject the spent shell.
With a 40 inch overall length and an unloaded weight of 8.5 pounds, this shotgun makes for a great tool when trekking through the woods on opening day.  Light enough to carry long distances but heavy enough to cut back on felt recoil, this single-shot gives the user a good balance between comfort and mobility.

Built with furniture made of black walnut, the H&R Ultra Slug Hunter features a Monte Carlo style buttstock and a short front handguard.  The cheek comb along the top of the stock gives users a comfortable cheek weld while using optics while the short handguard places the user’s support hand at or near the shotgun’s center of gravity, giving the user a very balanced grip.

The walnut stock and forend of the Ultra Slug Hunter are sanded and treated to the same specs you would find on a WWII Surplus rifle, giving it a familiar and respectable feel.  The steel components are typically found blued or parkerized.  The wood furniture is often found to be proud compared to the metal unless a gunsmith has properly matched the lines.
