John M. Browning's first slide or pump-action shotgun became Winchester's 1893 model, designed to handle black powder shotshells. However, after encountering some mechanical difficulties and the fact that it was unable to handle the then-new smokeless powder ammunition, a similar looking, but redesigned and improved model--the famed 1897 pump shotgun--was brought out. The 1897 Winchester was not only an immediate success with both civilian hunters, but the military as well, and with well over a million '97s produced between 1897-1957, this scattergun was the best-selling slide-action shotgun on the market and is undoubtedly the most famous pump shotgun of all time! The action it took part in, during the climactic gunfight in the final scenes of the 1969 classic western The Wild Bunch, combined with it's silky smooth action and rapid fire capability has had much to do with its popularity with today's Cowboy Action Shooters. Cimarron's 1897 Pump Shotgun is an authentic clone of the original Winchester with its Standard Blue finish, 20-inch barrel with choke tube (Modified), that handles 2 3/4-inch, 12 gauge shells, and a walnut stock and forearm. Weighing in at a handy 7.15 pounds, this scattergun is easy to swing into action, fire and reload, during those fast-paced competitions. Cimarron's 1897 Pump Shotgun is the choice of champions!

Cimarron 1897 Features

Cimarron 1897 Ballistics

Cimarron 1897 Capacity

The Cimmaron 1897 is directly copied from the Winchester 1897 “Trench Gun” and has a fixed magazine tube with a 6-round capacity when loaded with 2.75 inch shells.  Rounds are loaded directly into the magazine tube through the loading port in the bottom of the receiver.
Measuring just over 39 inches and weighing just over 7 pounds, the Cimarron 1897 is incredibly easy to carry over no-man’s land to clear Jerry’s trenches.  Its short length allows for easy navigation through the enemy’s better-engineered lines while its lack of protruding features keeps it from catching on the barbed wire you hastily cut.

Cimarron 1897 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The 1897 has a very traditional setup, though its pistol grip is rather on the small side when compared to other pump action shotguns.  The 1897 operates just like any other pump action shotgun, however this design also incorporates an internal sear that prevents the hammer from falling unless the bolt is locked forward, allowing the user to “slam fire” the gun

Cimarron 1897 Fit & Finish

The Cimarron 1897 is a faithful copy of the original Winchester.  Its walnut stock is beautifully finished to mimic its inspiration and its metal components are properly blued.
