FN M249S Features

The FN M249S is a semi-automatic, civilian-legal version of the M249 SAW Light Machine Gun.  This rifle fires from a closed bolt and can be fed by ammo belts or with STANAG pattern magazines.  It is built with an 18.5 inch barrel that can be swapped out by pressing the barrel release lever just like the real McCoy.  It also includes an optics rail as well as the standard adjustable sights that can be quickly adjusted to compensate for range and elevation.

FN M249S Capacity

The FN M249S is chambered in 5.56x45mmNATO and can be fed by any box magazine that can fit in an AR15 or, as is appropriate, fed from belts of 5.56 ammo.  Though standard belts are assembled with 100 or 200 rounds, the magic of M27 links allows for a non-finite belt length.  You can give your targets the whole nine yards if you want (That’s where the term came from).  Be advised, your belt needs to be supported if it’s more than 30 rounds long as the bolt doesn’t have enough kinetic energy to reliably feed that much weight.
The FN M249S measures 40.75 inches long and has an unloaded weight of 17.2 pounds.  Naturally, it’s considerably heavier with a 100 round belt loaded in it.  It’s big, it’s heavy, and sadly only semi-automatic but it can absolutely be fired from a standing, unsupported position.  Thankfully, this chonky boi has a carry handle allowing you to switch off arms when carrying it over long distances.

FN M249S Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The FN M249S has an FAL inspired pistol grip that fills the hand very well and has a buttstock that allows for a very comfortable cheek weld when you have the bipod deployed and have your support hand placed on the leg of the stock.  The stock is made of a composite material and includes a shoulder thing that goes up.  All of the controls are easy to find.  If you’re considering one of these, you probably already know how to operate it.

FN M249S Fit & Finish

The FN M249S is built with a 1:7 twist barrel and gets the most accuracy with M855 and M855A1 ammo.  It is built with a fixed gas block that cannot be adjusted by the user and fires from a closed bolt.  Its receiver is made from stamped sheet metal and the entire rifle is built with the same quality as the real M249.
