FN SCAR-L Features

The SCAR-L operates on a short-stroke gas piston action with an AR18-inspired multi-lug rotating bolt behind a 14.5 inch barrel.  The L-model meaning “light” signifies its lighter 5.56 caliber chamber.  This rifle is topped with flip-up iron sights that offer a wide-open sight picture while the full-length top rail on its monolithic receiver can accommodate any optics setup the user wants.

FN SCAR-L Capacity

The SCAR-L is chambered in 5.56x45mmNATO and feeds from all AR15 pattern magazines.  While the standard magazine size for the SCAR-L is 30 rounds, shorter 20 round magazines can be used as well as 10 round mags.  The SCAR-L can also feed from 60 round drum magazines as well as the 60 and 100 round quad-stack box magazines.
The SCAR-L is available with a 10.5 inch or 14.5 inch barrel bringing the unloaded weights to 7.2 and 7.7 pounds, respectively.
Lengths:
10.5” Barrel: 21.3” with stock folded, 28.5” with stock collapsed, up to 31.1” with stock extended.
14.5” Barrel: 25.8” with stock folded, 33.1” with stock collapsed, up to 35.6” with stock extended.
This variety of lengths allows the SCAR-L to easily be used in and adapted to different environments and situations.

FN SCAR-L Mobility

Mobility

FN SCAR-L Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The SCAR-L takes many of its controls from the AR15 including its pistol grip, magazine release, safety and bolt release placement, though the safety utilizes a 45/90 degree throw instead of the 90/180 throw of the M16.  The magazine release is ambidextrous, as is the safety.  The reciprocating charging handle can be switched from the left to the right side depending on user preference.  The stock can be adjusted for length of pull as well as fold to the right side, and the rifle can be fired with the stock folded.

FN SCAR-L Fit & Finish

The FN SCAR-L is made with a magnesium upper receiver, aluminum lower, and plenty of polymer components.  On the tan models, the colors of the parts never match due to the nature of anodizing  different metals with the same chemical slurry, so none of the parts are ever the right color.  With match-grade ammo, all SCAR rifles are guaranteed sub-MOA out of the box.
